📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Hajj – Verse 27

"And proclaim [59] among people the pilgrimage. They will come [60] to you on foot and on every lean camel coming from every distant track. [61]"

✅ [59] The Universal Call of Hajj

Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) stood on Mount Abu Qubais and called in all four directions:
"O servants of Allah, come to the House of Allah!"
Every soul destined to be born until Qiyamah heard this call.
Each soul that responded “Labbaik” (I am present) will perform Hajj accordingly.
Those who remained silent will not perform Hajj. (Tafsir Roohul Ma‘ani, Khazainul Irfaan)

This affirms that calling in absentia is permissible—hence, calling “Ya Rasool Allah” is also valid.
Even Umar (RA) once called out to Sariah from Madina, though he was in a distant battlefield.

Some scholars also interpret this as a command to the Prophet ﷺ to announce the obligation of Hajj.

✅ [60] Enduring Power of Ibrahim’s Call

The verse indicates that visiting the Ka‘ba is like going to Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) in response to his call.
The impact of that one proclamation will last until Qiyamah.
This is also a miracle of the Prophet ﷺ, as his call reaches East and West, including even the unborn.

It’s noteworthy that the Ka‘ba was reconstructed five times:

  1. By Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him)

  2. By Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him)

  3. By the Quraysh, 15 years before the Prophet’s mission

  4. By Hazrat Abdullah ibn Zubair (RA)

  5. And finally by Hajjaj ibn Yusuf, whose structure remains today.

✅ [61] Virtue of Distant and Difficult Hajj

Those who walk to Hajj or come from distant lands earn greater reward.
Performing Hajj with hardship is more virtuous than one performed with ease, and those who travel from afar are superior in this act to those who live nearby.

(22:27) and publicly proclaim Pilgrimage for all mankind so that they come to you on foot and mounted on lean[46] camels[47] from every distant point

Ala-Maududi

(22:27) and publicly proclaim Pilgrimage for all mankind so that they come to you on foot and mounted on lean[46] camels[47] from every distant point

46. The expression lean camels has been deliberately used to depict the picture of the camels of pilgrims coming from far off places to perform Hajj.

47. In my opinion the address to Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) comes to an end with (Surah Al-Hajj, ayat 27-29) have been added to emphasize and give further instructions for the performance of Hajj. We have based this opinion on the use of the epithet Ancient House of the Kabah. It could not have been used at the time when Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) built it. For further details about the construction of the Kabah see (Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayat 125-129); (Surah Aal-Imran, Ayat 96-97); and (Surah Ibrahim, Ayat 35-41).
