Transliteration:( Wa minan naasi mai yujaadilu fil laahi bighairi 'ilminw wa yattabi'u kullaa shaitaanim mareed )
"And there are some who dispute [6] about Allah without knowledge, and follow every rebellious devil [7]."
This refers to individuals like Nadr ibn Harith, who falsely claimed that the angels were the daughters of Allah Almighty, and constantly argued with the believers over this issue.
From this, we learn that in a debate, the one who is on falsehood will always try to force arguments, while the one on truth remains firm and does not waver.
Both sides cannot be called quarrelsome—only the one opposing the truth deserves that title.
This verse was revealed concerning Nadr bin Harith.
From this, we also learn that it is improper to debate about the Personality and Attributes of Allah Almighty without sound knowledge.
One should believe in Allah without arguments, and have complete trust in the words of the Holy Prophet ﷺ.
However, religious scholars may discuss such matters for the sake of verification, provided:
The purpose is not to argue,
The goal is to clarify objections and strengthen belief.
Thus, the science of oratory (Ilm al-Kalam), when used rightly, is beneficial, not harmful.
3. And among mankind is he who disputes about Allah, without knowledge, and follows every rebellious Shaytan. 4. For him (the devil) it is decreed that whosoever follows him, he will mislead him, and will drive him to the torment of the Fire.
Allah condemns those who deny the Resurrection and who deny that Allah is able to restore life to the dead, those who turn away from that which Allah has revealed to His Prophets and, in their views — denial and disbelief — follow every rebellious Shaytan among men and Jinn. This is the state of the followers of innovation and misguidance, who turn away from the truth and follow falsehood, following the words of the leaders of misguidance who call people to follow innovation and their own desires and opinions. Allah says concerning them and their like,
(And among mankind is he who disputes about Allah, without knowledge,) meaning, without sound knowledge.
(and follows every rebellious Shaytan. For him it is decreed.) Mujahid said, “This refers to that Shaytan.” meaning that is a matter written in the decree.
(that whosoever follows him,) and imitates him,
(he will mislead him, and will drive him to the torment of the Fire.) means, he will mislead him in this world, and in the Hereafter he will drive him to the torment of the Fire, which is unbearably hot, painful and agonizing. As-Suddi reported that Abu Malik said, “This Ayah was revealed about An-Nadr bin Al-Harith. This was also the view of Ibn Jurayj.
(22:3) Among people there are some who wrangle about Allah without knowledge[4] and follow every rebellious devil,
4. They do not indulge in discussions or disputes about the being or existence of Allah but about His rights and powers and His Revelations, as is evident from the succeeding passage. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) tried to convince them of Tauhid and Resurrection, inevitably the dispute arose whether there is One Allah, the sole Sovereign or there were other partners as well in His Godhead and whether He has the power to bring about Resurrection, etc.
