    📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Hajj – Verse 48

    "And how many towns that We let them loose that they were unjust [107], then I seized [108] them and to Me is the return."

    ✅ [107] The Tyranny of the Dwellers

    • This verse refers to towns whose inhabitants were unjust—specifically, disbelievers who denied Allah’s messengers.

    • Their oppression and disbelief made them deserving of divine punishment.

    • Since human beings are the most honored in Allah’s creation and the rest of creation is made subservient to them, their misuse of this status becomes even more severe in Allah's sight.

    • When they reject faith, they cause the ruin of entire communities, not just themselves.

    ✅ [108] The Inevitable Seizure

    • Allah allowed them time, but ultimately seized them with His punishment.

    • This seizure refers to sudden and complete destruction, either through natural disasters or military defeat.

    • The verse ends with a reminder of accountability: “and to Me is the return.”

      • All wrongdoers will return to Allah for final judgment—even if they escape worldly punishment temporarily.
