    📖 Commentary of Surah An-Nahl – Verse 23

    "Indeed, Allah knows what they conceal and what they reveal [43]. Certainly, He does not like the arrogant [44]."

    ✅ [43] Rectify the Inner and Outer Self

    This verse reminds us that Allah has full knowledge of both what is hidden within the hearts and what is openly expressed. Therefore, a believer must make it a priority to correct both internal beliefs and intentions, as well as outward actions and behaviors.

    Your deeds should be righteous, your appearance and character should reflect that of a true believer, and you must avoid both apparent and hidden sins. It is essential to remember that sins of the heart, such as hypocrisy, jealousy, and pride, are often more dangerous than those seen externally. May Allah Almighty guide us to safeguard ourselves from both visible and hidden transgressions.

    ✅ [44] The Condemnation of Arrogance

    Allah does not like arrogance, regardless of whether it is shown by a disbeliever or a believer. However, there are different types of pride, and it is important to understand the distinction.

    One of Allah’s names is Al-Mutakabbir (The Majestic), and this is true and rightful pride, belonging only to Him. But when humans display false pride or vanity, it becomes an act of condemnable arrogance.

    In certain contexts, such as displaying strength and confidence in battle against disbelievers, a kind of pride may be considered commendable and even rewarding. However, showing arrogance toward fellow believers is forbidden and considered a grave moral failing.

    More dangerously, arrogance shown in the presence of Allah Almighty or toward the Holy Prophet ﷺ is an act of infidelity and apostasy. This verse particularly addresses the third type of arrogance, which the polytheists of Arabia were afflicted with—an obstinate refusal to accept truth due to their prideful egos. In the court of Allah, what is accepted is humility and lowliness, not pride.
