Transliteration:( yatawaaraa minal qawmimin sooo'i maa bushshira bih; a-yumsikuhoo 'alaa hoonin am yadussuhoo fit turaab; alaa saaa'a maa yahkumoon )
"He hides himself from the people because of the bad news [117] he received. Will he keep the disgrace [118] or bury it in the dust [119]? Lo! They are very bad judges [120]."
From this we learn that the Arabs used to mock and taunt a person upon the birth of a daughter, treating it as a shameful event. They considered a girl worse than an animal—so much so that if a she-camel gave birth to a female, no one would object, but if a woman bore a daughter, it would be met with sorrow and disgraceful remarks.
This refers to the internal struggle: Should he keep the daughter alive, allowing her to live but possibly subjecting her to menial tasks like looking after animals, or bear the social disgrace of having a daughter in the house?
Alternatively, it may imply: keep her alive and live in constant humiliation before the people.
Many idol-worshippers, particularly from the tribes of Mudir, Khiza’ah, and Tameem, would bury their newborn daughters alive—a practice of extreme ignorance and cruelty.
Despite regarding daughters as worthless and shameful, they still tried to ascribe daughters to Allah Almighty. This highlights their hypocrisy and flawed judgment.
From this, we learn that to attribute anything base or contemptible—such as lies, weakness, or death—to Allah Almighty is an act of infidelity.

(16:59) and he hides himself from people because of the bad news, thinking: should he keep the child despite disgrace, or should he bury it in dust? How evil is their estimate of Allah![52]
52. This attitude of contempt towards daughters has been mentioned to bring home to them the height of their folly, ignorance and impudence in regard to God. This is why they did not hesitate to assign daughters to Allah, though they themselves felt that to have daughters was a matter of disgrace for them. Besides this, it shows that they had a very low estimation of Allah, which had resulted from their ways of shirk. So they felt nothing wrong in ascribing such foolish and absurd things to Allah Who is above such things.
