Transliteration:( Allazeena tatawaf faahumul malaaa'ikatu taiyibeena yaqooloona salaamun 'alai kumud khulul Jannata bimaa kuntum ta'maloon )
"Those whose lives are taken by the angels while they are in a state of purity [65], the angels say to them, 'Peace be upon you [66]. Enter Paradise [67] for what you used to do [68]."
This verse emphasizes the importance of one’s final state at the time of death. True piety is proven when a person dies in a state of purity and righteousness. A person may appear religious throughout life, but if they die in a state of disbelief or sin, their past may not benefit them.
From this, we also learn that at the time of death, the angel of death is accompanied by many other angels under his command. These angels are present across the world simultaneously, highlighting the divine system at work during the passing of every soul.
The angels approach the believer gently, greeting them with words of peace and glad tidings of Paradise. This reduces the pain and terror associated with the death process. These words of peace reflect both honor and reassurance, ensuring that the believer departs this world with joy, contentment, and spiritual ease.
The command “Enter Paradise” can be understood in several layers:
It may mean that their souls will spiritually visit Paradise, such as in the form of birds,
Or that cool breezes and fragrances from Paradise will be sent to their graves,
Or that this is the promise of physical entry into Paradise after Judgment Day.
The actual bodily entry into Paradise will occur after resurrection, but the spiritual benefits begin immediately for the righteous soul.
Paradise is attained in three primary ways:
Through one’s own good deeds (as addressed in this verse),
Through blessings linked to righteous individuals, such as minor children of believers entering Paradise without deeds,
Through creation specifically made to fill Paradise, as per divine plan.
This verse focuses on the first group—those who earned Paradise through their actions. Allah says:
"We joined them with their offspring" (S52:V21), meaning the righteous will be reunited with their loved ones.
The Ulama have explained that entry into Paradise itself is by the mercy and grace of Allah, but the ranks within Paradise will be distributed according to one's deeds (Roohul Bayaan).
