Transliteration:( Wa qaalat li ukhtihee qusseehi fabasurat bihee 'an junubinw wahum laa yash'uroon )
"And his mother said to his sister [27], follow him, then she remained observing from afar, and they were not aware. [28]"
Musa’s mother secretly instructed his sister, Mariam bint Imraan, to follow the baby's journey and observe where he ends up. According to Tafseer Roohul Ma’aani, her name was Mariam bint Imraan, wife of Ghalib bin Yusha. She is distinct from Maryam the mother of Isa (peace be upon him), though both share the same name and father's name. The two Imraans were different individuals, with nearly two thousand years separating them.
Mariam observed Musa from a distance, maintaining secrecy. Those around her did not suspect she had any connection to the infant. Her vigilance ensured that her family stayed informed and ready, without risking exposure. This shows how divine planning involved subtle, human action under Allah’s protection.
The tafsir of Surah Qasas verse 11 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Qasas ayat 10 which provides the complete commentary from verse 10 through 13.
(28:11) She told the sister of Moses: “Follow him.” So she kept watch over him unperceived (by the enemies).[13]
13. That is, the girl walked along and watched the floating basket in such a manner that the enemies could not know that she had anything to do with the child in it. According to the Israelite traditions, this sister of the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) was 10 to 12 years old. She followed up her brother intelligently and cleverly and ascertained that he had been picked up by the Pharaoh’s household.
