📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Qasas – Verse 18

"He was in the city the next morning, fearful and watching anxiously [46]. When he saw that the man who had sought his help the day before was now calling for help [47], Musa said to him, 'Indeed, you are a manifestly misguided man [48].'"

✅ [46] Fear and Caution

Musa entered the city the next day with anxious vigilance, fearing the consequences of the previous incident. This fear does not contradict prophethood, as natural fear from danger—like from a snake—is part of human nature, not a lack of trust in Allah.

✅ [47] Same Man, Same Trouble

Surprisingly, the same Israelite was again in a quarrel, now with another Qibti, and once more called Musa for help. His repeated entanglement shows a pattern of recklessness.

✅ [48] Rebuke for Repetitive Conflict

Musa called him clearly misguided, as he seemed to cause trouble daily. His behavior risked exposing Musa further and reflected poor judgment, despite the seriousness of their situation.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Qasas verse 18 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Qasas ayat 14 which provides the complete commentary from verse 14 through 19.

(28:18) The next morning he proceeded to the city in fear and looking around as one apprehensive of danger when all of a sudden, the man who had sought his help the day before again called out to him for his help. Moses said to him: Clearly, you are a very misguided fellow.[27]

Ala-Maududi

(28:18) The next morning he proceeded to the city in fear and looking around as one apprehensive of danger when all of a sudden, the man who had sought his help the day before again called out to him for his help. Moses said to him: Clearly, you are a very misguided fellow.[27]

27. That is, “You seem to be a quarrelsome man: you have a new quarrel daily with one or the other person.”

(18) And he became inside the city fearful and anticipating [exposure], when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous day cried out to him [once again]. Moses said to him, "Indeed, you are an evident, [persistent] deviator."
