📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Qasas – Verse 26

"One of the two women said, [68] 'O my father, employ him. [69] Indeed, the best employee is the one who is strong and trustworthy.' [70]"

✅ [68] Suggestion from Bibi Safoorah

The speaker was Bibi Safoorah, the elder daughter of Shu’ayb (peace be upon him), who would later marry Musa. Her proposal was based on both wisdom and foresight, recognizing a righteous man in need of support.

✅ [69] A Blessed Choice

The advice to employ Musa became a source of great blessing, similar to other historic divinely guided choices—like Asiyah adopting Musa, or the selection of Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) as caliphs.

✅ [70] Signs of Strength and Trust

When Shu’ayb asked how she recognized Musa’s qualities, she mentioned his physical strength—lifting a stone that ten men couldn’t—and his modesty and manners, such as lowering his gaze and ensuring respectful distance. These traits made him the ideal helper, trusted by both father and daughter.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Qasas verse 26 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Qasas ayat 25 which provides the complete commentary from verse 25 through 29.

(28:26) One of the two women said: “Father, employ this man in your service. The best whom you might employ is he who is strong and trustworthy.”[37]

Ala-Maududi

(28:26) One of the two women said: “Father, employ this man in your service. The best whom you might employ is he who is strong and trustworthy.”[37]

37. It is not necessary that the girl said this to her father in his very first meeting with Moses. Most probably her father made the traveler stay with him for a couple of days, and the girl counseled him thus during that time. What she meant by this counsel was: “Father, you are old, and therefore, we girls have to go out to perform outdoor duties. We have no brother either, who could take up these chores. You may, therefore, employ this man as a servant: he is strong and will be able to face all kinds of rigors, and he is also trustworthy. He helped us only due to his noble nature when he found us standing helpless, but he never raised his eyes at us.”

(26) One of the women said, "O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy."
