Transliteration:( Qul faatoo bi Kitaabim min 'indil laahi huwa ahdaa minhu maaa attabi'hu in kuntum saadiqeen )
"Say, 'Bring a Book from Allah which is better guided [131] than these two, and I will follow it, if you are truthful.' [132]"
This refers to a challenge: produce a book from Allah that surpasses both the original, unaltered Torah and the Holy Qur’an in guidance.
It is important to note that while the original Torah was a true source of guidance, it now leads only to belief in the Holy Prophet ﷺ, as its legal commands have been abrogated.
This shows that possibility can never override impossibility. It is impossible to produce a book greater than the Holy Qur’an, and just as impossible to follow any other book over it.
Some wrongly debate with disbelievers on the condition that if defeated, they would accept disbelief—this is absolutely forbidden.
One cannot suspend their faith on something that is logically and spiritually impossible.
This verse is a challenge, not a concession, and must not be misused to justify flawed reasoning or methods.
The tafsir of Surah Qasas verse 49 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Qasas ayat 48 which provides the complete commentary from verse 48 through 51.
(28:49) Tell them, (O Prophet): “Then do bring a Book from Allah which is a better guide than either of them, and I will follow it![70] Do so if you are truthful!”
70. That is, “I have to follow the guidance in any case, provided that it is not forged but is real guidance from God. If you possess a divine Book which gives better guidance than the Quran and the Torah, you should produce it: I shall follow it without any hesitation.”
