📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Qasas – Verse 20

"And a man came running from the farthest part of the city [51]. He said, 'O Musa, indeed, the leaders are conspiring against you to kill you. So, leave [52]; I am advising you sincerely.'"

✅ [51] A Secret Believer’s Warning

A man named Kharbeel, a Qibti who had secretly embraced faith, came running to warn Musa. He likely used side paths and alleys to reach Musa before the royal guards, as Pharaoh’s fort was on the city’s edge. His faith and courage are honored in the Qur’an with deep respect.

✅ [52] Urgent Advice to Escape

He informed Musa that Pharaoh’s officials were plotting his death and urged him to flee Egypt immediately. His words showed sincere concern and loyalty, offering timely warning that allowed Musa to escape the approaching danger and cross Pharaoh’s jurisdiction.

Ibn-Kathir

20. And there came a man running, from the farthest end of the city. He said: “O Musa! Verily, the chiefs are taking counsel together about you, to kill you, so escape. Truly, I am one of the good advisers to you.”

﴿وَجَآءَ رَجُلٌ﴾

(And there came a man) He is described as being a man because he had the courage to take a different route, a shorter route than those who were sent after Musa, so he reached Musa first and said to him: “O Musa,

﴿إِنَّ الْمَلاّ يَأْتَمِرُونَ بِكَ﴾

(Verily, the chiefs are taking counsel together about you.),” meaning, `they are consulting with one another about you.’

﴿لِيَقْتُلُوكَ فَاخْرُجْ﴾

(to kill you, so escape.) means, from this land.

﴿إِنِّى لَكَ مِنَ النَّـصِحِينَ﴾

(Truly, I am one of the good advisers to you.)

(28:20) Then a man came running from the farther end of the city[30] and said: “O Moses, the nobles are deliberating about you that they may put you to death. So do be gone. I am one of your well-wishers.”

Ala-Maududi

(28:20) Then a man came running from the farther end of the city[30] and said: “O Moses, the nobles are deliberating about you that they may put you to death. So do be gone. I am one of your well-wishers.”

30. This happened when in the second day’s fight, the secret of the murder became known and the Egyptian informed the authorities about the case accordingly.

(20) And a man came from the farthest end of the city, running. He said, "O Moses, indeed the eminent ones are conferring over you [intending] to kill you, so leave [the city]; indeed, I am to you of the sincere advisors."
