"Please declare: 'I have surely been commanded [39] to worship, being purely His devotee [40].'"
This command to the Holy Prophet ﷺ—“I have surely been commanded to worship”—also implies a command for the entire Ummah.
It emphasizes that true worship is that which is performed in accordance with the guidance, teachings, and medium of the Prophet ﷺ.
Worship and good deeds performed without this prophetic connection—even if seemingly noble—are invalid. That is why the acts of infidels, no matter how charitable, are futile, because they are disconnected from the Prophet ﷺ, who is the medium of divine acceptance.
The phrase “being purely His devotee” describes the highest level of sincerity (Ikhlas)—a complete state of being a true and purified servant of Allah.
This pure servitude is only achieved through connection to the Holy Prophet ﷺ, who is the perfect example of absolute submission and sincerity.
Thus, real sincerity is not self-created—it is gifted through love and obedience to the Prophet ﷺ, whose blessed path leads to the purity of worship that Allah commands.
