📖 Commentary of Surah Az-Zumar – Verse 37

"And whom Allah guides, for him there is none to mislead [92]. Is not Allah the Most Honourable, the Master of Retribution?"

✅ The Irrevocable Nature of Divine Guidance

[92] This verse highlights the supreme power of Allah’s guidance. When Allah places the light of faith (nūr-e-īmān) into the heart of a believer, it brings about a transformation—one becomes inclined to follow the Prophets, uphold truth, and avoid the influence of misguided people.

This spiritual light is not the result of intellect or worldly wisdom, but a special blessing from Allah. Once a person is adorned with this light, no force—be it Satanic deception, false philosophies, or worldly distractions—can lead him astray. Such a person is anchored in truth, protected by the One who guides.

✅ Allah: The Most Honourable and the Avenger

The verse closes with a rhetorical question affirming two attributes of Allah:

  • Al-ʿAzīz (The Most Honourable) – indicating that Allah is almighty and invincible; His guidance and decisions are final.

  • Dhū-Intiqām (The Master of Retribution) – affirming that while He is merciful to the believers, He will exact just punishment from those who oppose and mock the truth.

Thus, the verse is both a comfort to the guided and a warning to the rebellious. Allah’s guidance is a shield no misleader can penetrate, and His justice is one none can escape.=

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Az-Zumar verse 37 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Zumar ayat 36 which provides the complete commentary from verse 36 through 40.

(39:37) And he whom Allah guides to the Right Way, none can lead him astray. Is not Allah the Most Mighty, the Lord of Retribution?[56]

Ala-Maududi

(39:37) And he whom Allah guides to the Right Way, none can lead him astray. Is not Allah the Most Mighty, the Lord of Retribution?[56]

56. That is, this also is a result of their lack of guidance that the foolish people esteem highly the power and honor of their deities but they never think that Allah also is All- Mighty and they can also be punished for insulting Him by the shirk they are committing against Him.

(37) And whoever Allāh guides - for him there is no misleader. Is not Allāh Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution?
