📖 Commentary of Surah Az-Zumar – Verse 33

"But those who come with truth and confirm it as truth, these are among the pious [84]."

✅ [84] The Bringer and Verifier of Truth

This verse highlights two categories of righteousness: those who bring the truth and those who accept and affirm it. According to the leading commentators:

  • The bringer of truth is none other than the Holy Prophet ﷺ, who conveyed the divine message with absolute clarity and sincerity.

  • The verifier of the truth is Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), whose unwavering belief and immediate affirmation of the Prophet ﷺ’s mission earned him the title As-Siddiq (the truthful one).

This verse elevates their spiritual status by calling them pious — not just in words, but by virtue of their absolute submission to divine truth. It also affirms the merit of those who stand by the truth even when it is unpopular or difficult, declaring them among the true friends of Allah.

Ibn-Kathir

Please refer to Surah Zumar ayat 32 which provides the complete commentary from verse 32 through 35.

(39:33) But he who brought the Truth, and those who confirmed it as true, such are the ones who shall be guarded against the chastisement.[52]

Ala-Maududi

(39:33) But he who brought the Truth, and those who confirmed it as true, such are the ones who shall be guarded against the chastisement.[52]

52. It means this: As to who will receive punishment in the trial before Allah on the day of Resurrection, you should note it well that the punishment inevitably will be inflicted on those wicked people who invented a false creed that there were also other associates with Allah, who had a share in His Being, authority, powers and rights, and worse than that, when the truth was presented before them, they not only paid no heed to it, but, on the contrary, treated the one who presented it as an impostor. As far as the person who came with the truth, and those who affirmed faith in him, are concerned there can obviously be no question of their receiving any punishment from the court of Allah.

(33) And the one who has brought the truth [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)] and [they who] believed in it - those are the righteous.
