Transliteration:( An taqoola nafsuny yaahasrataa 'alaa maa farrattu fee jambil laahi wa in kuntu laminas saakhireen )
"Lest any soul should say: 'Ah, woe to me for falling short of my duty [142] to Allah. And surely I used to laugh [143].'"
This shows that being unmindful of the rights of the Holy Prophet ﷺ is equivalent to being negligent in fulfilling the rights of Allah.
The disbelievers often failed to honour the Prophet ﷺ, and this is counted as failure in divine duty.
As Allah says:
"Whoever obeys the Messenger has indeed obeyed Allah" (Surah 4:80).
Thus, respecting and obeying the Holy Prophet ﷺ is in fact fulfilling the rights of Allah Almighty.
The phrase "I used to laugh" refers to the mockery made by the disbelievers about the religion of Allah, the Prophet ﷺ, and the Holy Qur’an.
This confirms that the verse is addressed to the disbelievers, who in their arrogance and ignorance, ridiculed sacred truths and will one day deeply regret it.
