Transliteration:( Wa Yawmal Qiyaamati taral lazeena kazaboo 'alallaahi wujoohuhum muswaddah; alaisa fee Jahannama maswal lilmutakabbireen )
"And on the Day of Resurrection you will see those who fabricated lies [148] against Allah, that their faces will be black [149]. Is not the Hell an abode for those who are boastful?"
This refers to those who ascribed falsehoods to Allah, such as:
Claiming that Allah has partners or children,
Or denying His Prophets, calling them false.
To deny a Prophet is, in reality, to call Allah a liar, because Allah affirms their truthfulness.
Thus, anyone who rejects the Messengers has, by extension, falsified Allah’s own word.
Two key lessons emerge:
The blackening of faces will be specific to disbelievers.
Even if some sinful believers are temporarily punished in Hell, their faces will not be blackened, as this carries deep disgrace—and Allah will not humiliate the Ummah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ in such a manner.
On the Day of Judgement, there will be a clear, visible distinction between believers and disbelievers.
Without needing to ask, their faces will reveal their fate.
This refutes the claim that the Holy Prophet ﷺ will not recognize his followers on that Day. As Allah states:
"The culprits will be recognized by their faces" (Surah 55:41).
60. And on the Day of Resurrection you will see those who lied against Allah – their faces will be black. Is there not in Hell an abode for the arrogant 61. And Allah will deliver those who have Taqwa to their places of success. Evil shall touch them not, nor shall they grieve.
Allah tells us that on the Day of Resurrection, some faces will be blackened and some will be whitened. The faces of those who followed splits and divisions will be blackened, and the faces of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama`ah will be whitened. Allah says here:
(And on the Day of Resurrection you will see those who lied against Allah) meaning, by their claims that He had partners or offspring.
(their faces will be black.) means, because of their lies and fabrications.
(Is there not in Hell an abode for the arrogant) means, is not Hell sufficient for them as a prison and humiliating final destination, because of their stubborn pride, arrogance and refusal to follow the truth
(And Allah will deliver those who are those who have Taqwa to their places of success.) means, because of what Allah has decreed for them of happiness and victory.
(Evil shall touch them not, ) means, on the Day of Resurrection.
(nor shall they grieve.) means, the greater terror (of that Day) will not cause them grief, for they will be safe from all grief and removed from all evil, and they will attain all that is good.
(39:60) On the Day of Resurrection you shall see that the faces of those who had lied against Allah have turned dark. Is Hell not vast enough to provide a room to the vainglorious?
