📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Anbiya – Verse 18

"Rather We hurl the truth on falsehood, then it takes out its brain, and therefore it vanishes [27]. And woe to you for those utterances, which you fabricate."

✅ [27] Truth Always Defeats Falsehood

This verse illustrates how truth may arrive quietly, but its power is unmatched.

Allah says He strikes falsehood with truth so forcefully that it crushes its core—its brain—until it vanishes.

Though falsehood makes noise and appears dominant, it cannot withstand the strength of truth.
The Qur’an came during a time of deep darkness, yet it overpowered disbelief and polytheism—just like the staff of Musa (peace be upon him) swallowed the illusions of the magicians.

The verse ends with a warning: Woe to those who fabricate lies, for they will be exposed and destroyed, just like falsehood itself.

Ibn-Kathir

(21:18) Nay, We hurl the Truth at falsehood so that the Truth crushes falsehood, and lo! it vanishes. Woe to you for what you utter![17]

Ala-Maududi

(21:18) Nay, We hurl the Truth at falsehood so that the Truth crushes falsehood, and lo! it vanishes. Woe to you for what you utter![17]

17. That is, the object for which this world has been created is to stage a conflict between the truth and falsehood. And you yourselves know that in this conflict falsehood has always been defeated and destroyed. You should, therefore, consider this reality seriously. For, if you build the system of your life on the false presumption that it is mere fun, you will meet with the same consequences as the former people did, who presumed that the world was a mere show and pastime. Therefore you should reconsider your whole attitude towards the message which has come to you. Instead of making fun of it and scoffing at the Messenger, you should take a warning from the fate of the former peoples.

(18) Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it,[879] and thereupon it departs. And for you is destruction from that which you describe.[880]

[879]- Literally, "strikes its brain," disabling or killing it. [880]- Of untruth concerning Allāh, particularly here, the claim that He has a son or other "partner" in divinity.
