Transliteration:( Wa nada'ul mawaazeenal qista li Yawmil Qiyaamati falaa tuzlamu nafsun shai'aa; wa in kaana misqaala habbatim min khardalin atainaa bihaa; wa kafaa binaa haasibeen )
"And We shall set up the scales of justice for the Day of Judgement [75], that no soul shall be wronged [76] anything. And if there be anything, even equal to a grain of a mustard seed, then We shall bring it. And We are sufficient to take into account [77]."
On the Day of Judgement, precise and infallible scales (Meezan) will be established. These are not metaphorical but real instruments of divine justice, weighing every deed — small or great — with complete accuracy.
The purpose: to ensure justice without error, exaggeration, or omission.
This affirms Allah’s promise of absolute fairness:
No one will be wronged even by the slightest measure. Every soul will receive exactly what it earned — no injustice, no oversight, no partiality.
This gives both hope to the oppressed and warning to the oppressors.
Even if an action is as small as a mustard seed, Allah will bring it forth and account for it.
This shows:
Nothing is lost in Allah’s record
Every good and evil deed matters, no matter how tiny
Allah alone is sufficient as the One who takes account — He needs no help, no witness, and no device
The verse reflects both Allah’s justice and His all-encompassing knowledge.
The tafsir of Surah Anbiya verse 47 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Anbiya ayat 44 which provides the complete commentary from verse 44 through 47.
(21:47) We shall set up just scales on the Day of Resurrection so that none will be wronged in the least. (We shall bring forth the acts of everyone), even if it be the weight of a grain of mustard seed. We shall suffice as Reckoners.[48]
48. See also (Surah Al-Aaraf, ayat 8-9) note 8-9. It is difficult for us to understand the exact nature of the balance. Anyhow, it is clear that the balance will weigh accurately all the human moral deeds instead of material things, and will help judge whether a man is virtuous or wicked and how much. The Quran has used this word to make mankind understand that every deed, good or bad, will be weighed and judged according to merit.
[887]- i.e., anything as small or insignificant as a mustard seed.
