Transliteration:( Amit takhazoo min doonihee aalihatan qul haatoo burhaanakum haaza zikru mam ma'iya wa zikru man qablee; bal aksaruhum laa ya'lamoonal haqqa fahum mu'ridoon )

24. Have they taken other gods besides Allah? Say, 'bring forth your proof [34]. This Qur'an is the mention of those with me [35] and the narration of those before me'. Rather most of them do not know the truth; therefore they turn aside (36), (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(24) Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, [O Muḥammad], "Produce your proof. This [Qur’ān] is the message for those with me and the message of those before me."[881] But most of them do not know the truth, so they are turning away. (Saheen International Translation)

📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Anbiya – Verse 24

"Have they taken other gods besides Allah? Say, 'Bring forth your proof [34]. This Qur'an is the mention of those with me [35] and the narration of those before me.' Rather most of them do not know the truth; therefore they turn aside [36]."

✅ [34] The Demand for Proof

This verse challenges the false claim of associating partners with Allah by demanding: “Bring your proof.”
It teaches that asking a liar for evidence to expose his lie is permissible, while asking out of doubt or uncertainty is blameworthy.

No rational or scriptural proof exists for polytheism—its claim is baseless.

✅ [35] A Unified Message Through the Qur'an

The phrase “those with me” refers to the Ummah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, while “those before me” refers to previous nations.

The Qur’an contains guidance for this Ummah and records of earlier nations, showing that in none of them was polytheism ever accepted.
This is a decisive and eternal proof of Tawheed (the Oneness of Allah).

✅ [36] Turning Away From the Truth

The verse highlights the ignorance of most disbelievers—they reject truth blindly and stubbornly.
While the common people deny due to ignorance, their scholars deny willfully out of hatred.

This teaches that religious ignorance is a sin, and learning the truth is a responsibility for every individual.

Ibn-Kathir

24. Or have they taken for worship gods besides Him Say: “Bring your proof. This is the Reminder for those with me and the Reminder for those before me.” But most of them know not the Truth, so they are averse. 25. And We did not send any Messenger before you but We revealed to him (saying): “There is no God but I, so worship Me.”

(Or have they taken for worship gods besides Him Say) — O Muhammad —

(Bring your proof.) your evidence for what you are saying.

(This is the Reminder for those with me) means, the Qur’an.

(and the Reminder for those before me) means, the previous Books, unlike what you claim. Each Book was revealed to each Prophet who was sent with the message that there is no god except Allah, but you idolators do not recognize the truth, so you turn away from it. Allah says:

(And We did not send any Messenger before you but We revealed to him (saying): “There is no god but I. ..”) This is like the Ayat:

﴿وَاسْئلْ مَنْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَآ أَجَعَلْنَا مِن دُونِ الرَّحْمَـنِ ءَالِهَةً يُعْبَدُونَ ﴾

(And ask those of Our Messengers whom We sent before you: “Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Most Gracious”) ﴿43:45﴾

(And verily, We have sent among every Ummah a Messenger (proclaiming): “Worship Allah, and avoid Taghut (all false deities).”) ﴿16:36﴾ Every Prophet who was sent by Allah called people to worship Allah Alone, with no partner or associate. The natural inclination of man (Al-Fitrah) also bears witness to that. The idolators have no proof and their dispute is of no use before their Lord; on them is wrath, and for them will be a severe torment.

(21:24) Have they taken gods other than Him? Say, (O Muhammad): “Bring forth your proof! Here is the Book with admonition for those of my time and there are also scriptures with admonition for people before me.”[24] But most people do not know the Truth, and have, therefore, turned away from it.[25]

Ala-Maududi

(21:24) Have they taken gods other than Him? Say, (O Muhammad): “Bring forth your proof! 24. The first two were rational arguments and this is a historical one. This means that the study of all the former Scriptures shows that the Creator of the universe is One Allah and He alone is worthy of service and worship, while your religion is neither supported by rational arguments nor by historical evidence.

25. It is their lack of the knowledge of the reality which has created this indifference towards the message of the Prophet, and the same has made them heedless of the message.

(24) Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, [O Muḥammad], "Produce your proof. This [Qur’ān] is the message for those with me and the message of those before me."[881] But most of them do not know the truth, so they are turning away.

[881]- All previous prophets called for the worship of Allāh alone.
