Transliteration:( Qaala awa law ji'tukum bi ahdaa mimmaa wajatdtum 'alaihi aabaaa'akum qaalooo innaa bimaaa ursiltum bihee kaafiroon )
"He (that Prophet) said: 'And what! Even though I may bring to you a better guidance than what you found your fathers [38] upon?' They said: 'Surely, we disbelieve [39] in that with which you are sent.'"
The Prophet asks if they would still follow their fathers even when he brings a better path. The word “better” here does not imply a comparison between two valid paths—because their ancestral ways were not guidance at all, but total misguidance. In contrast, Islam is true guidance. This teaches that majority customs or traditions have no weight when they oppose the command of a Prophet.
Their reply reveals deep-rooted stubbornness: even if the Prophet was on the truth, they still chose disbelief, only to remain loyal to ancestral error. This shows how blind following can lead to outright rejection of divine guidance.
