Transliteration:( Hattaaa izaa jaaa'anaa qaala yaa laita bainee wa bainaka bu'dal mashriqaini fabi'sal qareen )
"Until such one [64] will come to Us, he will say: 'Ah! Would that there had been between me and you a distance of east and west [65]. What an evil companion is he!' [66]"
On the Day of Judgment, the disbeliever will come forward—accompanied by the devil who led him astray. Though Shaitaan abandons a person at death, he will return to escort the disbeliever to Hell. In contrast, those who followed the path of obedience and piety will be gathered with the Prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous, as mentioned in Surah An-Nisa (4:69). Companionship in this world thus shapes one's eternal fate.
In deep regret, the sinner will wish there had been a vast distance—like that of east and west—between him and the devil. This expresses his longing to have never followed him in the world. But such a wish will be useless, as the time for repentance will have passed.
At that moment, the disbeliever will see the devil in his true, horrifying form and will declare him an evil companion. The very one he trusted and followed blindly in the world will now be a source of terror and ruin, further intensifying his regret.
