📖 Commentary of Surah Az-Zukhruf – Verse 83

"So, leave them alone to indulge in main discourses and let them amuse [143] themselves until they meet that Day which they have been promised [144]."

✅ [143] Let Them Be Lost in Their Falsehood

This verse commands the Prophet ﷺ not to be distressed by the disbelievers' idle talk and false arguments. Their amusement and mockery of the truth are temporary diversions, and Allah tells His beloved Prophet ﷺ to disengage emotionally from their baseless objections and let them continue in their delusion for now.

Importantly, this is not a cancellation of his concern for his Ummah. Rather, it is a Divine consolation — that their misguidance is not the Prophet’s fault, and he should focus on those willing to accept guidance. It also highlights that the Prophet ﷺ’s care continues for believers, even if he turns away from disbelievers. As Allah says: "And lower your wing of mercy for the believers" (Surah Ash-Shu’ara, 26:215).

✅ [144] Until the Appointed Day – The Day of Judgment

The Day of Judgment is referred to here as the final point of reckoning, when those who were heedless and mocking in this world will face the consequences of their actions. Until then, they may appear successful or carefree, but their fate is sealed unless they repent.

This also reminds us that after death, one's worldly companions will abandon them — but the Prophet ﷺ’s concern and mercy remain for his Ummah even beyond the grave. His intercession and love endure until and after the Day of Judgment, unlike the abandonment of worldly relationships.
