Transliteration:( Bal qaalooo innaa wajadnaaa aabaaa'anaa 'alaaa ummatinw wa innaa 'alaaa aasaarihim muhtadoon )
"No, but, in fact, they say: 'We found our fathers on this system (religion) and we are guided by their footsteps' [35]."
This verse exposes the real reason behind the disbelievers’ stubbornness: blind imitation of ancestral customs. They falsely believed that simply following their forefathers’ practices was enough for guidance.
It teaches that upholding traditions which contradict Islamic law is a serious offence. Even today, some Muslims persist in un-Islamic customs, especially during marriages, blindly imitating ignorant ancestral practices—a clear reflection of the very behavior condemned in this verse.

(43:22) Nay; they simply claim: “We found our forefathers on a way, and we continue to find guidance in their footsteps.”[22]
22. That is, they have no authority of any divine book. The only authority they have is that it has been the practice since the time of their forefathers. Therefore, they have taken the angels as goddesses in imitation of them.
