Surah Al-Isra Ayat 104 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

216. This means land on which Divine punishment had not come is permissible to inhabit. Pharoah was taken out of Egypt and then drowned. Otherwise, just to stop in the land which has been subjected to Divine punishment is prohibited, let alone inhabiting it. By this land is either meant Syria, or both Egypt and Syria.

217. This means the pious and the sinners. the believers and the infidels will all be gathered on the Day of Judgement together. Thereafter they would be sifted out. Says Allah Almighty: "And today he separates you, oh you culprits" (S36: V59).

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Al-Isra verse 104 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Isra ayat 101 which provides the complete commentary from verse 101 through 104.

(17:104) and thereafter We said to the Children of Israel: “Now dwell in the land,[117] but when the promised time of the Hereafter comes, We shall bring you all together.”

117. This part of the story of Pharaoh has been related here because it applied exactly to the mushriks of Makkah who were doing their best to uproot the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the believers from the land of Arabia. This story, so to say, tells them: Pharaoh resolved to uproot Moses (peace be upon him) and the Israelites but was himself completely annihilated along with his followers. But Moses (peace be upon him) and his followers settled down in the land. Likewise, if you persist on the same way, you will surely meet with the same end.
