Transliteration:( Am amintum any yu'eedakum feehi taaratan ukhraa fa yursila 'alaikum qaasifam minar reehi fa yugh riqakum bimaa kafartum summa laa tajidoo lakum 'alainaa bihee tabee'aa )
"Or have you become secure that He will not return you to the sea a second time [151], and send upon you a violent storm of wind that will drown you for your disbelief? Then you will not find for yourselves any avenger against Us [152]."
This verse cautions against false security after surviving one trial. Just because Allah saved you once at sea, do not assume you are safe forever.
He can return you to the sea, trap you there, and send a violent storm as punishment.
Wherever one’s death is destined, he must go there—none can escape Divine decree.
As a reflection, some pious souls even wish to die in Madina, as a mark of honour and faith, such as the heartfelt hope:
“May Allah determine my death in Madina Munawwarah, on faith.” – Ahmad Yar
The verse also rejects the false notion of intercession held by the disbelievers. They imagined:
Their idols could act as intercessors before Allah.
Or that they could bully their way to salvation.
However, true believers never accepted this flawed concept, and never will.
No one can rescue or avenge against Allah’s decree, and intercession is not granted by mere claim, but only by Allah’s permission and to whom He wills.
This verse emphasizes that ultimate safety lies only in sincere belief and obedience.
69. Or do you feel secure that He will not send you back a second time to sea and send against you a Qasif and drown you because of your disbelief Then you will not find any avenger therein against Us.
Allah says,
(Or do you feel secure), `you who turn away from Us after acknowledging Our Oneness at sea once you are back upon dry land,’
(that He will not send you back) to sea a second time
(and send against you a Qasif) which will destroy your masts and sink your vessels. Ibn `Abbas and others said, “Al-Qasif is the wind of the sea which destroys vessels and sinks them.”
(and drown you because of your disbelief) means because of your rejection and turning away from Allah.
(Then you will not find any avenger therein against Us.) Ibn `Abbas said that this means a helper. Mujahid said, “A helper who will avenge you,” i.e., take revenge on your behalf. Qatadah said it means, “We are not afraid that anyone will pursue Us with anything of that nature (i.e., vengeance).”
(17:69) Or do you feel secure that He will not cause you to revert to the sea, and let a tempest loose upon you and then drown you for your ingratitude whereupon you will find none even to inquire of Us what happened to you?
