Transliteration:( Izal la azaqnaaka di'fal hayaati wa di'fal mamaati summa laa tajidu laka 'alainaa naseeraa )
"Then We would have made you taste double (punishment) in life and double (punishment) after death, and then you would not find any helper against Us." [163]
This verse is as firm as the command of Allah Almighty:
“If worst comes to worst had there been a son to the Most Affectionate, I would have worshipped first” (S43:V81).
There is neither any possibility of Allah Almighty having a son, nor of the Holy Prophet ﷺ worshipping such a being. Likewise, there was no possibility of the Holy Prophet ﷺ even nearing inclination towards the infidels, nor of any worldly punishment approaching him.
In that verse too, the adverb “if” is used, and here again, the same conditional form is employed. From this we learn that the sin of a person who has knowledge is more severe than that of one who is ignorant.

Please refer to Surah Isra ayat 73 which provides the complete commentary from verse 73 through 75.
(17:75) whereupon We would have made you taste double (the chastisement) in the world and double (the chastisement) after death, and then you would have found none to help you against Us.[88]
88. This review implies two things: (1) If you had compromised with falsehood after recognizing the truth, you might have pleased your degenerate people but would have incurred the wrath of Allah and would have received double chastisement both in this world and in the Hereafter. (2) No man, not even a Messenger of Allah, can fight singlehanded against the deceitful methods of falsehood, unless he receives the succor of Allah. It was the fortitude which Allah had bestowed upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), which helped him to retrain steadfast on the right position he had taken, so that no persecution, howsoever great, could turn him away in the least from that position.
