Transliteration:( Zurriyyata man hamalnaa ma'a Noohin innahoo kaana 'abdan shakooraa )
O you the offspring of those We carried with Nuh [12]. No doubt, he was a great and thankful servant [13].
✅ 12. “Offspring of those We carried with Nuh”
This refers to all of mankind after the Great Flood. The people being addressed are descendants of those who were saved on the Ark with Hazrat Nuh (On whom be peace).
It is widely accepted that after the Deluge, the human race continued only through the children of Hazrat Nuh.
Therefore, he is referred to as Adam II, the second father of humanity.
✅ 13. “A Great and Thankful Servant”
Hazrat Nuh’s (peace be upon him) real name was Yashkar, but due to his constant weeping out of fear of Allah, he came to be known as Nuh (the one who laments and mourns).
His gratitude and devotion are highlighted here — despite enduring centuries of rejection from his people, he remained sincere, patient, and thankful to Allah.
This verse serves as a reminder to the descendants of those saved: to follow the example of Hazrat Nuh in humility and thankfulness.
The tafsir of Surah Al-Isra verse 3 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Isra ayat 2 which provides the complete commentary from verse 2 through 3.
(17:3) You are the descendants of those whom We carried (in the Ark) with Noah.[4] He was truly a thankful servant.
4. That is, you are the descendants of Noah (peace be upon him) and his companions; therefore, you should behave in a manner as behooves such people. You should make Allah alone as your Guardian, for your ancestors escaped death from the flood only because they had made Allah their Guardian.
