Transliteration:( Zaalika mimmaaa awhaaa ilaika Rabbuka minal hikmah; wa laa taj'al ma'allaahi ilaahan aakhara fatulqaa fee Jahannama maloomam mad hooraa )
"This is of those revelations, which your Lord has sent to you with wisdom [90]. And do not put with Allah any other god, lest you will be thrown in Hell taunted, being banished [91]."
The word “wisdom” here refers to laws and commands that are so pure and balanced that even a sound, rational mind naturally accepts them.
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
“Ever since my eyes beheld the Holy Prophet ﷺ, I never cast a glance at my private parts.”
Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
“Since embracing Islam, I have never spoken a lie.”
Just as a king would not sit in a filthy garbage heap, similarly, the light of faith cannot dwell in a sinful heart and a lying tongue.
This reflects the refined character developed through adherence to divine guidance (Tafseer Roohul Bayaan).
This part of the verse warns that associating partners with Allah will lead to being cast into Hell in a state of humiliation and rejection.
However, it is also understood that a sinful believer—despite being deserving of punishment—will be protected from public disgrace and mockery in Hell, because such disgrace is reserved for the disbelievers.
As the pious have said:
“Those who never expose others’ faults in this world—how would they desire to see anyone disgraced on the Day of Judgment?”
39. This is (part) of Al-Hikmah (wisdom) which your Lord has revealed to you. And set not up with Allah any other god lest you should be thrown into Hell, blameworthy and rejected (from Allah’s mercy).
Allah says: `What We have commanded you to do is part of good manners, and what We have forbidden you are evil qualities. We have revealed this to you, O Muhammad, so that you may command the people likewise.’
(And set not up with Allah any other god lest you should be thrown into Hell, blameworthy) meaning, your own self will blame you, as will Allah and His creation.
(rejected) means far removed from everything good. Ibn `Abbas and Qatadah said: “(It means) cast out.” This is an address to the Ummah via the Messenger , for he is infallible.
(17:39) That is part of the wisdom your Lord has revealed to you. So do not set up any deity beside Allah lest you are cast into Hell, rebuked and deprived of every good.[45]
45. Though this has been addressed to the Prophet (peace be upon him), the real addressee is every human being as in the case of many such verses.
