Quran-27:5 Surah An-naml English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

Transliteration:( Ulaaa'ikal lazeena lahum sooo'ul 'azaabi wa hum fil Aakhirati humul akhsaroon )

5. There are those for whom there is evil torment (8) and they are alone the greatest losers in the hereafter (9).

Surah An-Naml Ayat 5 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

8. In the world they would be given severe punishment, they will not obtain guidance to the Straight Path, to be killed and imprisoned at the hands of the believers, their hearts would not be at ease, to appear in a horrible form at the time of death, the pangs of death would be severe. their graves would be made very narrow, the darkness of the grave and its heat, etc
Then the severity of the heat on the Day of Judgement. the severity of reckoning. then all types of punishment in Hell. The word evil torment includes all these punishments. From for them' we learn that if Allah Almighty wills, sinful believers would be protected from this severe torment.

9. By greatest losses means their good deeds would not be accepted, nor would their sins be forgiven. Sinful believers would not be in this condition. In short, the infidels are at a great loss in this world and the Hereafter. Says Allah Almighty. "Undoubtedly a man is in a state of loss. but those who believe" (S103:V 2-3). Thus without faith, there is nothing but loss.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Naml verse 5 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Naml ayat 1 which provides the complete commentary from verse 1 through 6.

(27:5) It is they for whom a grievous chastisement lies in store;[6] it is they who shall be the greatest losers in the Hereafter.

Ala-Maududi

(27:5) It is they for whom a grievous chastisement lies in store;[6] it is they who shall be the greatest losers in the Hereafter.

6. Nothing definite has been said about the form, time and place of this “worst of punishment.” For it is imposed in this world also on different persons and groups and nations in countless different ways; a part of it is also experienced by the wicked when they are about to leave the world; man experiences it also in the intermediary state between death and resurrection; and then after resurrection it will become endless and everlasting.
