📖 Commentary of Surah An-Naml – Verse 89

"Whoever brings a good deed [164], for him there is a reward better than it [165], and they will be safe from terror on that Day [166]."

✅ [164] Sincerity in Deeds

This refers to the one who brings a good deed done with sincerity, not merely performed outwardly. The wording “brings a good deed” indicates that the deed must be presented with genuine faith and intention before Allah on the Day of Judgement.

✅ [165] Reward Greater Than the Deed

The believer will receive a reward far greater than the deed itself—this includes multiple-fold recompense, eternal blessings, and spiritual elevation. This is a manifestation of Allah’s mercy and generosity.

✅ [166] Safety from the Great Terror

Those who bring sincere good deeds will be protected from the terror and fear of the Day of Judgement.
As mentioned earlier in the Surah: “The Great Terror shall not grieve them” (Surah An-Naml – Verse 87), such people will experience peace and honour while others face dread and anxiety.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Naml verse 89 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Naml ayat 87 which provides the complete commentary from verse 87 through 90.

(27:89) Whosoever comes with good will receive a reward better than his deed,[108] and they will be made secure from the terror of that Day.

Ala-Maududi

(27:89) Whosoever comes with good will receive a reward better than his deed,[108] and they will be made secure from the terror of that Day.

108. The reward will be better in two ways: (1) It will be higher than what a person will actually deserve for his good deeds; and (2) it will be everlasting and for ever though the good act was temporary and its influence confined to a limited period only.

(89) Whoever comes [at Judgement] with a good deed will have better than it, and they, from the terror of that Day, will be safe.
