    📖 Commentary of Surah An-Naml – Verse 85

    "And the word has already fallen upon them because of their wrongs, so now they speak nothing [156]."

    ✅ [156] Silence of the Disbelievers on the Day of Judgement

    This tells us that there will come a moment on the Day of Judgement when the disbelievers will be unable to speak, struck silent due to the Divine Decree that has already been passed against them.

    At other moments, they will be allowed to speak—as described in other verses—either to deny, argue, or confess. Thus, there is no contradiction, as the Day will consist of various stages, some allowing speech, others imposing complete silence as a form of disgrace.

    Ala-Maududi

    (27:85) And the Word will come to pass against them because of their wrong-doing: they will then be able to utter nothing.

    There is no commentary by Abul Maududi available for this verse.

    (85) And the decree will befall them[1088] for the wrong they did, and they will not [be able to] speak.

    [1088]- Allāh's decree will come into effect upon them, and His promise will be fulfilled.
