    قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ لِمَ تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ قَبۡلَ ٱلۡحَسَنَةِۖ لَوۡلَا تَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ

    Transliteration:( Qaala yaa qawmi lima tasta'jiloona bissaiyi'ati qablal hasanati law laa tas taghfiroonal laaha la'allakum turhamoon )

    46. Saleh said, "O my people, why do you hasten to evil before good? Why do you not seek forgiveness from Allah, that you may receive mercy?" (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

    (46) He said, "O my people, why are you impatient for evil before [i.e., instead of] good?[1078] Why do you not seek forgiveness of Allāh that you may receive mercy?" (Saheen International Translation)

    46. Saleh said, "O my people, why do you hasten to evil before good? Why do you not seek forgiveness from Allah, that you may receive mercy?"

    (27:46) Salih said: “My people, why do you wish to hasten that evil rather than good[59] should come upon you? Why should you not seek pardon from Allah so that mercy be shown to you?”

    Ala-Maududi

    (27:46) Salih said: “My people, why do you wish to hasten that evil rather than good[59] should come upon you? Why should you not seek pardon from Allah so that mercy be shown to you?”

    59. That is, “Why do you hasten in asking for a torment instead of some good from Allah?” The following saying of the chiefs of the Prophet Salih’s people has been related at another place: “O Salih, bring that scourge with which you threaten us, if you really are one of the Messengers.” (Surah Al-Aaraf, Ayat 77).

    (46) He said, "O my people, why are you impatient for evil before [i.e., instead of] good?[1078] Why do you not seek forgiveness of Allāh that you may receive mercy?"

    [1078]- By challenging Ṣāliḥ to bring on the promised punishment rather than asking for mercy from Allāh.
