Transliteration:( Was saabiqoonal awwaloona minal Muhaajireena wal Ansaari wallazeenat taba'oo hum bi ihsaanir radiyal laahu 'anhum wa radoo 'anhu wa a'adda lahum jannaatin tajree tahtahal anhaaru khaalideena feehaaa abadaa; zaalikal fawzul 'azeem )
“And the first and foremost [276] among the emigrants and the helpers [277], and those who followed them with excellence, Allah is pleased with them [278], and they are pleased with Him. And He has prepared for them gardens under which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. This is the greatest success [279].”
This verse refers to the first and foremost believers among the emigrants (Muhajireen) and helpers (Ansaar), and those who followed them with excellence. It specifically refers to the early Muslims who accepted Islam, such as Bibi Khadija (May Allah be pleased with her), the first person to accept Islam, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique (May Allah be pleased with him), the first man to accept Islam, and Hazrat Ali (May Allah be pleased with him), the first child to accept Islam. This shows that being part of the early Muslim community and rallying behind the Prophet ﷺ in times of need is a highly praiseworthy quality.
This verse also acknowledges the participants of the Battle of Badr and those who took part in the Allegiance of Ridwan, further elevating their status as those who supported the Prophet ﷺ in critical moments of his mission.
The verse also refers to all Muslims, until the Day of Judgment, who will follow the path of the Muhajireen, Ansaar, and the rest of the Companions. Allah Almighty is pleased with all of them, but it is important to note that the early companions (Muhajireen and Ansaar) are the leaders and guides, while the later generations of Muslims are their followers.
From this verse, we learn three important points:
True followers of Islam are those whose lives are patterned after the steps of the Ansaar, Muhajireen, and the rest of the noble companions. Therefore, any group or sect, such as Rafzees and Khawarij, who deviate from this path, are in error.
It is permissible to say “May Allah be pleased with him” for any pious Sunni believer, not just for the noble Companions. This phrase is not exclusive to the companions but applies to any righteous Muslim.
When Allah is pleased with the followers of the Noble Companions, imagine the extent of Allah's pleasure with the Noble Companions themselves. Their status is unmatched, and Allah’s satisfaction with them is the ultimate honor.
Several key issues are revealed here:
All noble companions of the Prophet ﷺ are upright, just, and guaranteed to be inmates of Paradise. None of them was a sinner or transgressor. They are role models for all believers.
No believer can reach the status of a Companion because Allah has already declared them to be inhabitants of Paradise. Their honor and status are unparalleled, and their deeds have been eternally recognized.
Any historical narrative or tradition that seeks to question the integrity or transgression of the Noble Companions is baseless and contemptuous because it contradicts this verse. The number of Noble Companions is often cited as 124,000, with some mentioned specifically for their exceptional qualities, but this verse underscores the excellence of all of them, just as the Prophets of Allah have been honored.
100. And the foremost to embrace Islam of the Muhajirin and the Ansar and also those who followed them exactly (in faith). Allah is well-pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.
Allah mentions that He is pleased foremost with the Muhajirin, Ansar and those who followed them in faith, and that they are well-pleased with Him, for He has prepared for them the gardens of delight and eternal joy. Ash-Sha`bi said that,
(The foremost Muhajirin and Ansar) are those who conducted the pledge of Ar-Ridwan in the year of Hudaybiyyah. Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari, Sa`id bin Al-Musayyib, Muhammad bin Sirin, Al-Hasan and Qatadah said that they are those who performed the prayer towards the two Qiblahs with the Messenger of Allah ﴿first toward Jerusalem and later toward the Ka`bah﴾. Allah, the Most Great, stated that He is pleased foremost with the Muhajirin, the Ansar and those who followed their lead with excellence. Therefore, woe to those who dislike or curse them, or dislike or curse any of them, especially their master after the Messenger, the best and most righteous among them, the Siddiq (the great truthful one) and the grand Khalifah, Abu Bakr bin Abi Quhafah, may Allah be pleased with him. The failure group, the Rafidah (a sect of Shiites), are the enemies of the best Companions, they hate and curse them, we seek refuge with Allah from such evil. This indicates that the minds of these people are twisted and their hearts turned upside down, for where are they in relation to believing in the Qur’an They curse those whom Allah stated He is pleased with! As for the followers of the Sunnah, they are pleased with those whom Allah is pleased with, curse whomever Allah and His Messenger curse, and give their loyalty to Allah’s friends and show enmity to the enemies of Allah. They are followers not innovators, imitating ﴿the Sunnah﴾ they do not initiate it on their own. They are indeed the party of Allah, the successful, and Allah’s faithful servants.
(9:100) And of those who led the way – the first of the Emigrants (Muhajirun) and the Helpers (Ansar), and those who followed them in the best possible manner – Allah is well-pleased with them and they are well-pleased with Allah. He has prepared for them Gardens beneath which rivers flow; therein they will abide forever. That is the supreme triumph.
