Transliteration:( Sa yahlifoona billaahi lakum izanqalabtum ilaihim litu'ridoo 'anhum fa a'ridoo 'anhum innahum rijsunw wa ma'waahum jahannamu jazaaa'an bi maakaanoo yaksiboon )
“They will swear by Allah to you when you return [260] to them, so that you may turn away [261] from them. So turn away from them [262]; indeed, they are impure [263], and their abode is Hell as a recompense for what they used to earn [264].”
This verse teaches that the hypocrites and the misguided often swear excessively by Allah's name to prove that they are Muslims. A true believer, however, does not need to constantly swear by Allah to confirm their faith. Their sincerity is shown through their actions and belief.
Allah commands the Prophet ﷺ and the believers not to bother with the hypocrites by responding to their falsehoods or divulging their hypocrisy. It is better to turn away from them rather than engage in their deceitful words and actions.
This refers to the command to completely cut off all forms of social interaction with the hypocrites, including talking, greeting, meeting, eating, drinking, and keeping contacts. The Prophet ﷺ instructed the believers to sever all ties because there was no longer any hope of their reformation. This was done out of extreme displeasure and contempt for their hypocrisy, not out of mere disdain. This teaches that we should maintain distance from apostates and misguided individuals, who cannot be trusted or engaged with in good faith.
This verse also indicates that the hypocrites cannot be purified now, as they have inherent impurity that no water or ritual purification can cleanse. Only the blessed gaze of the Prophet ﷺ could purify such people. Temporary impurities can be cleansed, but permanent, inherent impurity stemming from hypocrisy cannot be removed.
This verse was revealed in the context of Jad bin Qais, Motib bin Qasheer, and their associates, whose boycott had been decreed. It could also refer to the notorious hypocrite Abdullah ibn Ubay, who swore an oath to participate in future battles, but his deceitful nature led to his rejection by Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.

Please refer to Surah Taubah ayat 94 which provides the complete commentary from verse 94 through 96.
(9:95) When you return to them they will surely swear to you in the name of Allah that you may leave them alone. So do leave them alone;[94] they are unclean. Hell shall be their home, a recompense for what they did.
94. The Arabic words are of the same root but have different senses in the two sentences in which they occur. In the first sentence it means, “You may turn away from them” and forbear them and may not take them to task. In the second sentence it means, “So turn away from them” and break off all connections with them and have nothing to do with them, as if you had broken off completely with them, and they with you.
