Transliteration:( Khuz min amwaalihim sadaqatan tutahhiruhum wa tuzakkeehim bihaa wa salli 'alaihim inna salaataka sakanul lahum; wallaahu Samee'un 'Aleem )
“Take from their wealth a charity [286] that purifies [287] and elevates them, and pray for them. Indeed, your prayers [288] are a source of tranquility for them [289]. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.”
This verse instructs the Prophet ﷺ to take charity from their wealth and distribute it among the poor. The act of charity through the blessed hands of the Prophet ﷺ served to purify and elevate the believers. It was the practice of the Noble Companions to have their charities distributed by the Prophet ﷺ, and this is still followed by Muslims today, who present the rewards of their good deeds as a gift to the Prophet ﷺ, after which it is conveyed to others. This also highlights that every believer is totally dependent on the Prophet ﷺ for their spiritual elevation.
In certain regions like Punjab, it is a common practice for people to recite verses and offer the reward of that recitation to a particular saint, asking if the reward can be conveyed to others. The permissibility of this practice is supported by this verse, showing that the intercession of the Prophet ﷺ and the conveying of rewards is both legitimate and beneficial.
This verse teaches that purity is attained through the blessed attention of the Prophet ﷺ. The act of giving charity to the poor was not just an act of generosity but a means of seeking the Prophet’s ﷺ favorable attention, which leads to spiritual purification. Allah Almighty bestows bounties upon His servants through the prayers of the Prophet ﷺ. This shows that the Prophet’s ﷺ intercession and prayers play a vital role in the purification and elevation of the believers.
The verse also highlights that the prayers of the Prophet ﷺ serve as a source of tranquility for the believers. This is not only referring to their physical well-being but also to their spiritual peace. The blessed personality of the Prophet ﷺ is a comfort and source of inner peace for every believer.
The bountiful prayers of the Prophet ﷺ bring peace of mind and tranquility to the believer. This verse shows that the Prophet’s ﷺ prayers for the believers are a means of securing Allah’s mercy and are an essential source of spiritual comfort. It serves as a reminder that the Prophet’s ﷺ intercession is a source of peace and healing for the hearts of the believers.
103. Take Sadaqah from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it, and Salli for them. Verily, your Salat are a Sakan for them; and Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower. 104. Know they not that Allah accepts repentance from His servants and accepts the Sadaqat, and that Allah alone is the One Who forgives and accepts repentance, Most Merciful
Allah commanded His Messenger to take Sadaqah from the Muslims’ money to purify and sanctify them with it. This Ayah is general, even though some said that it refers specifically to those who mixed good and evil deeds, who admitted to their errors. Some bedouin later thought that paying Zakah to the Leader was not legislated except to the Messenger himself, using this Ayah as evidence,
(Take Sadaqah from their wealth.) Abu Bakr As-Siddiq and other Companions refuted this ill comprehension and fought against them until they paid the Zakah to the Khalifah, just as they used to pay it to the Messenger of Allah . As-Siddiq said, “By Allah! If they abstain from paying a bridle that they used to pay to the Messenger of Allah , I will fight them for refraining from paying it.” Allah’s statement,
(and Salli for them), means, supplicate for them, and ask Allah to forgive them. In the Sahih, Muslim recorded that `Abdullah bin Abi Awfa said, “Whenever the Prophet was brought charity, he used to invoke Allah for those who brought it. My father also brought his charity and the Prophet said,
(O Allah! I invoke You for the family of Abu Awfa.)” Allah’s statement,
(Verily, your Salat are a Sakan for them), means, a mercy for them, according to Ibn `Abbas. Allah said next,
(and Allah is All-Hearer,) of your invocation (O Muhammad),
(All-Knower.) in those who deserve your invocation on their behalf, who are worthy of it. Allah said,
(Know they not that Allah accepts repentance from His servants and accepts the Sadaqat) This Ayah encourages reverting to repentance and giving charity, for each of these actions erases, deletes and eradicate sins. Allah states that He accepts the repentance of those who repent to Him, as well as charity from pure resources, for Allah accepts it with His Right Hand and raises it for its giver until even a date becomes as large as Mount Uhud. Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said,
(Verily, Allah accepts charity, receives it in His Right Hand and develops it for its giver, just as one of you raises his pony, until the bite ﴿of food﴾ becomes as large as Uhud.) wThe Book of Allah, the Exalted and Most Honored, testifies to this Hadith,
(Know they not that Allah accepts repentance from His servants and accepts the Sadaqat), and,
(Allah will destroy Riba and will give increase for Sadaqat.) ﴿2:276﴾ `Abdullah bin Mas`ud said, “Charity falls in Allah’s Hand before it falls in the needy’s hand,” he then recited this Ayah,
(Know they not that Allah accepts repentance from His servants and accepts the Sadaqat).
(9:103) (O Prophet)! “Take alms out of their riches and thereby cleanse them and bring about their growth (in righteousness), and pray for them. Indeed your prayer is a source of tranquillity for them.” Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
