Transliteration:( Wa maa mana'ahum 'an tuqbala minhum nafaqaatuhum illaaa annahum kafaroo billaahi wa bi Rasoolihee wa laa ya'toonas Salaata illaa wa hum kusaalaa wa laa yunfiqoona illaa wa hum kaarihoon )
And what prevented their expenditures from being accepted was only that they denied [149] Allah and His Messenger. And they come to prayer lazily [150] and spend only unwillingly [151].
This verse teaches that the worship of one who denies Allah and His Messenger is unacceptable.
Like a branch cannot bear fruit unless connected to the root, good deeds must be rooted in sincere servitude to the Holy Prophet ﷺ for acceptance.
Performing prayer negligently is a characteristic of hypocrites.
From this we derive several legal and spiritual lessons:
Performing prayer at the last moment.
Habitually praying without congregation.
Praying bare-headed, with unbuttoned shirts, or folded sleeves.
These reflect negligence and are undesirable acts in Salah.
Hypocrites give charity unwillingly because they do not truly believe in its reward.
Their spending is to hide hypocrisy or seek worldly favors.
Charity given for pride or to avoid mockery will not be rewarded by Allah.
