Transliteration:( Wa laa tu'jibka amwaaluhum wa awlaaduhum; innamaa yureedul laahu any yu'azzibahum bihaa fid dunyaa wa tazhaqa anfusuhum wa hum kaafiroon )
“Be not astonished over their wealth and children. Allah only intends to punish [234] them therewith in this world, and that they part with their souls while they are infidels [235].”
This verse highlights that the wealth and children of the hypocrites are not a sign of Allah's pleasure, but rather a means of their punishment. Allah intends to engross them in these worldly matters to such an extent that they are unable to remember Allah Almighty. This teaches that any wealth or children which become an obstacle to the remembrance of Allah Almighty are unsound and ultimately bad for the individual, as they distract from the purpose of life.
This verse also indicates that the total love for wealth and children will prevent them from turning their attention to Allah Almighty. Until death, their attachment to these worldly desires will keep them from seeking Allah’s guidance. May Allah Almighty protect us from this evil, where material possessions hinder our spiritual growth and devotion.
85. And let not their wealth or their children amaze you. Allah only wants to punish them with these things in this world, and that their souls shall depart (die) while they are disbelievers.) We mentioned before the explanation of a similar Ayah, all the thanks and praises are due to Allah.
(9:85) Let not their riches or their children excite your admiration. Through these Allah seeks to chastise them in this world, and that their lives will depart them while they are unbelievers.
