Transliteration:( Laa ta'taziroo qad kafartum ba'da eemaanikum; in na'fu 'an taaa'ifatin minkum nu'az zib taaa'ifatan bi annahum kaanoo mujrimeen )

66. Make no excuses, you have already become infidels after becoming Muslims (182), If We forgive (183) , some of you, then We shall punish others, because they were guilty.

Surah At-Tawbah Ayat 66 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

182. From this we learn that insulting the dignity of the Holy Prophet | is an act of infidelity even if it is done unintentionlaly because mockery has been declared as infidelity. We further learn that the one who insults the dignity of the Holy Prophet is an apostate

183. In there is a prophecy that of the three the one who remained silent would be able to repent and he would not be granted forgiveness. The other two would not be able to repent and would thus be punished in Hell. Thus this third person sincerely repented. His name was Yahya ibn Hameer Ashjaee.

He was martyred in the Battle of Yamamah during the rule of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique (May Allah be pleased with him) but his body was never found. At the repentance he prayed to Allah Almighty "Oh Allah grant me martyrdom in Your path in such a way that there shall be no one to give me Ghusal and Kafan and no one to bury me". KHAZAIN UL IRFAAN Oh Allah grant through his medium forgiveness to the sinners and repentance for all of us. Amin..

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Taubah verse 66 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Taubah ayat 65 which provides the complete commentary from verse 65 through 66.

(9:66) Now, make no excuses. The truth is, you have fallen into unbelief after having believed. Even if We were to forgive some of you, We will surely chastise others because they are guilty.[74]

74. That is, “Those foolish buffoons, who take interest in such conversations and mock even at serious things because there is nothing serious in the world for them, may be pardoned. But there are others who mock at these serious things deliberately with evil intentions, because they consider the Messenger (peace be upon him) and the way taught by him as ridiculous in spite of their professions of faith. As their real object is to discourage the believers from making preparations for Jihad, they are criminals and not buffoons; therefore they shall not be pardoned at all.”
