Quran Quote  :

Quran-9:67 Surah At-tawbah English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

Transliteration:( Almunaafiqoona wal munaafiqaatu ba'duhum mim ba'd; yaamuroona bilmunkari wa yanhawna 'anil ma'roofi wa yaqbidoona aidiyahum; nasul laaha fanasiyahum; innal munaafiqeena humul faasiqoon )

67. The hypocrites, men and women, are birds (184) of the same feathers. They bid evil and forbid from doing good (185) and keep their hands closed (186). They have left Allah, so Allah has left them. No doubt, the hypocrites are the confirmed disobedient (187).

Surah At-Tawbah Ayat 67 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

184. By this is meant all are equal in hypocrisy though some are leaders and others are underlings. But none from them is a believer.

 185. This tells us to stop people from good and pious talk is the way of the infidels. The Wahabies should take a lesson from this as they continuously stop people from doing good deeds and indulging in good activities.

Says Allah Almighty: "Forbidder of good, transgressor, sinful". (S68:V12) The Wahabies do not lend support for stopping worthless games and entertainment. But instead they will, stop people from activities which cater for the remembrance of Allah Almighty and His Beloved Rasool and from gatherings in which the Saints of Allah Almighty are being discussed. May Allah grant them good understanding.

186. In that, they do not spend their weatlh in Allah's way and they stop others from doing this. From this those people should take a lesson who stops others from holding Fatihas of the pious servants of Allah Almighty without any apparent reason. This type of spending too is spending in Allah's way.

187. By transgressor is meant one holding evil sinful deeds because such a person is still a Muslim. There are three types of sinfulness and beliefs eg. the infidel, and not one who commits impiety in which sinfulness of beliefs is the most detestable type.

Ibn-Kathir

67. The hypocrites, men and women, are one from another; they enjoin evil, and forbid the good, and they close their hands. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them. Verily, the hypocrites are the rebellious. 68. Allah has promised the hypocrites — men and women — and the disbelievers, the fire of Hell; therein shall they abide. It will suffice them. Allah has cursed them and for them is the lasting torment.

Other Characteristics of Hypocrites

Allah admonishes the hypocrites who, unlike the believers, who enjoin righteousness and forbid evil,

(they enjoin evil, and forbid the good, and they close their hands), from spending in Allah’s cause,

(They have forgotten Allah), they have forgotten the remembrance of Allah,

(so He has forgotten them.), by treating them as if He has forgotten them. Allah also,

(And it will be said: “This Day We will forget you as you forgot the meeting of this Day of yours) ﴿45:34﴾. Allah said,

(Verily, the hypocrites are the rebellious) the rebellious from the way of truth who embrace the wicked way,

(Allah has promised the hypocrites — men and women — and the disbelievers, the fire of Hell), on account of their evildoing mentioned here,

(therein shall they abide.), for eternity, they and the disbelievers,

(It will suffice them.), as a torment,

(Allah has cursed them), He expelled and banished them ﴿from His mercy﴾,

(and for them is the lasting torment.)

(9:67) The hypocrites, be they men or women, are all alike. They enjoin what is evil, and forbid what is good, and withhold their hands from doing good.[75] They forgot Allah, so Allah also forgot them. Surely the hypocrites are wicked.

Ala-Maududi

(9:67) The hypocrites, be they men or women, are all alike. They enjoin what is evil, and forbid what is good, and withhold their hands from doing good.[75] They forgot Allah, so Allah also forgot them. Surely the hypocrites are wicked.

75. These are the common characteristics of all hypocrites. All of them are interested in evil and inimical to good. If someone undertakes to do an evil thing, they would dedicate all their sympathies, counsels, encouragements, contributions, good wishes, praises, and their approvals to such a one. They would join hands to accomplish that evil thing and persuade others to take part in it and encourage others in every way. Moreover, they would show in every way their hearty pleasure if they perceived that the evil thing was progressing satisfactorily. On the other hand, if someone undertakes to do a good thing, they are shocked to bear the very news of it for it pains their hearts; nay, they do not even like that such a thing should be undertaken at all. Then, if they see someone coming forward to help it, they feel very uncomfortable and try their best to hinder him from it, and if he does not give it up, they would wish that he should fail in it. Then all of them have this common characteristic that they do not spend anything at all for good ends irrespective of the fact whether they be otherwise parsimonious or generous. At any rate, their wealth is either for hoarding or for evil deeds. As a matter of fact, they would spend large sums on evil works generously but would not be willing to spend a farthing for good things.
