Transliteration:( Qaalaa qaaa'ilum minhum laa taqtuloo Yoosufa wa alqoohu fee ghayaabatil jubbi yaltaqithu badus sai yaarati in kuntum faa 'ileen )
"One of them said, 'Do not kill Yusuf [Joseph]; rather, cast him into a dark well so that some caravan might pick him up if you are determined to act.'"
Since killing an innocent person is a grave and severe sin, one of the brothers — Yahooda, who was known to be the most kind-hearted among them — suggested an alternative. Instead of committing murder, he advised that Yusuf be cast into a deep, dark well, where a passing caravan might discover and take him away. Although this suggestion still involved wrongdoing, it was less severe than taking a life, and reflected at least a slight sense of mercy and conscience within the group.
