Quran Quote  : 

Quran-12:80 Surah Surah-yusuf English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

فَلَمَّا ٱسۡتَيۡـَٔسُواْ مِنۡهُ خَلَصُواْ نَجِيّٗاۖ قَالَ كَبِيرُهُمۡ أَلَمۡ تَعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ أَبَاكُمۡ قَدۡ أَخَذَ عَلَيۡكُم مَّوۡثِقٗا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَمِن قَبۡلُ مَا فَرَّطتُمۡ فِي يُوسُفَۖ فَلَنۡ أَبۡرَحَ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ حَتَّىٰ يَأۡذَنَ لِيٓ أَبِيٓ أَوۡ يَحۡكُمَ ٱللَّهُ لِيۖ وَهُوَ خَيۡرُ ٱلۡحَٰكِمِينَ

Transliteration:( Falammas tay'asoo minhu khalasoo najiyyan qaala kabeeruhum alam ta'lamoo anna abaakum qad akhaza 'alaikum mawthiqam min Allahi wa min qablu maa farrattum fee Yoosufa falan abrahal arda hattaa ya'zana leee abeee aw yahkumal laahu lee wa huwa khairul haakimeen )

80. Then when they were disappointed (171) of him, they began conferring going apart. His elder brother said, do you not remember that your father had taken a solemn pledge(172), of Allah from you, and before this how you committed mistake (173). regarding Yusuf? Then I shall not move from this place until my father permits or Allah commands Me (174) and His command is best.

171. This is that incident about which Hazrat Yaqoob (on whom be peace) had hinted at the time of departure when he had said to his sons: "That you may be encompassed" (S12:V66) Observe! how farsighted is a Prophet of Allah. 

172. Your father had made you promise in respect of protecting Benyamin and bring him safely with you. We have failed to protect him. Otherwise we should have kept a close eye on his goods and kept his bundle close so that there was no possibility for the cup to come out of it and for them to keep Benyamin behind. We have already broke our pledge in respect of Hazrat Yusuf (on whom be peace). 

173. This tells us that expressing remorse at sin is the origin of repentance. These people have expressed regret for their previous

incident, hence they had obtained forgiveness. It is not necesary to use the word Taubah seeking repentance. Words reflecting remorse and regret are sufficient for it. Thus the thought of remorse of these brothers was a means of repentance for them. Now if any one regards them as evil is cruel and unjust.

174. This means I would remain behind in Egypt until such time my father gives me permission to return to Kanaan or the king releases Benyamin. With what face can I go back to my father. These words are spoken by Yahooda who was the eldest amongst them. Later it was him who came to Hazrat Yaqoob (on whom be peace) bringing the glad-tidings about Hazrat Yusuf (on whom be peace). Some scholars have stated that these words were spoken by Roobeel who was most intellegent amongst them.

80. So, when they despaired of him, they consulted in private. The eldest among them said: Know you not that your father did take an oath from you in Allah’s Name, and before this you did fail in your duty with Yusuf Therefore I will not leave this land until my father permits me, or Allah decides my case and He is the Best of the judges. 81. “Return to your father and say, `O our father! Verily, your son has stolen, and we testify not except according to what we know, and we could not know the Unseen! 82. And ask (the people of) the town where we have been, and the caravan in which we returned; and indeed we are telling the truth.


Allah’s Prophet Ya`qub receives the Grievous News

Allah’s Prophet Ya`qub repeated to his children the same words he said to them when they brought false blood on Yusuf’ shirt,

﴿بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًا فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ﴾

(Nay, but your own selves have beguiled you into something. So patience is most fitting (for me).) Muhammad bin Ishaq said, “When they went back to Ya`qub and told him what happened, he did not believe them and thought that this was a repetition of what they did to Yusuf. So he said,

﴿بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًا فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ﴾

(Nay, but your own selves have beguiled you into something. So patience is most fitting (for me).) Some said that since this new development came after what they did before ﴿to Yusuf﴾, they were given the same judgement to this later incident that was given to them when they did what they did ﴿to Yusuf﴾. Therefore, Ya`qub’s statement here is befitting,

﴿بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًا فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ﴾

(Nay, but your own selves have beguiled you into something. So patience is most fitting (for me).) He then begged Allah to bring back his three sons: Yusuf, Binyamin and Rubil to him.” Rubil had remained in Egypt awaiting Allah’s decision about his case, either his father’s permission ordering him to go back home, or to secure the release of his brother in confidence. This is why Ya`qub said,

﴿عَسَى اللَّهُ أَن يَأْتِيَنِى بِهِمْ جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَلِيمُ﴾

(May be Allah will bring them (back) all to me. Truly, He! Only He is All-Knowing,), in my distress,

﴿الْحَكِيمُ﴾

(the All-Wise), in His decisions and the decree and preordainment He appoints. Allah said next,

﴿وَتَوَلَّى عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ يأَسَفَا عَلَى يُوسُفَ﴾

(And he turned away from them and said: “Alas, my grief for Yusuf!”) He turned away from his children and remembered his old grief for Yusuf,

﴿يأَسَفَا عَلَى يُوسُفَ﴾

(Alas, my grief for Yusuf!) The new grief, losing Binyamin and Rubil, renewed his old sadness that he kept to himself. `Abdur-Razzaq narrated that Ath-Thawri said that Sufyan Al-`Usfuri said that Sa`id bin Jubayr said, “Only this nation ﴿the following of Prophet Muhammad ﴾ were given Al-Istirja’. Have you not heard the statement of Ya`qub, peace be upon him,

﴿يأَسَفَا عَلَى يُوسُفَ وَابْيَضَّتْ عَيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْحُزْنِ فَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ﴾

(“Alas, my grief for Yusuf !” And he lost his sight because of the sorrow that he was suppressing. )” Ya`qub suppressed his sorrow and did not complain to a created being, according to Qatadah and other scholars. Ad-Dahhak also commented, “Ya`qub was aggrieved, sorrowful and sad.” Ya`qub’s children felt pity for him and said, while feeling sorrow and compassion,

﴿تَالله تَفْتَأُ تَذْكُرُ يُوسُفَ﴾

(By Allah! You will never cease remembering Yusuf), `you will keep remembering Yusuf,

﴿حَتَّى تَكُونَ حَرَضاً﴾

(until you become weak with old age,), until your strength leaves you,’

﴿أَوْ تَكُونَ مِنَ الْهَـلِكِينَ﴾

(or until you be of the dead.) They said, `if you continue like this, we fear for you that you might die of grief,’

﴿قَالَ إِنَّمَآ أَشْكُو بَثِّى وَحُزْنِى إِلَى اللَّهِ﴾

(He said: “I only complain of my grief and sorrow to Allah.”) When they said these words to him, Ya`qub said,

﴿إِنَّمَآ أَشْكُو بَثِّى وَحُزْنِى﴾

`(I only complain of my grief and sorrow) for the afflictions that struck me,

﴿إِلَى اللَّهِ﴾

(to Allah, ) alone,

﴿وَأَعْلَمُ مِنَ اللَّهِ مَا لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ﴾

(and I know from Allah that which you know not.) I anticipate from Allah each and every type of goodness.’ Ibn `Abbas commented on the meaning of,

﴿وَأَعْلَمُ مِنَ اللَّهِ مَا لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ﴾

(and I know from Allah that which you know not.) “The vision that Yusuf saw is truthful and Allah will certainly make it come true.”

(12:80) Then, when they had despaired of Joseph they went to a corner and counselled together. The eldest of them said: “Do you not know that your father has taken a solemn promise from you in the name of Allah, and you failed in your duty towards Joseph? So I will not depart from this land until my father permits me, or Allah pronounces His judgement in my favour. He is the best of those who judge.”
