Transliteration:( Qaaloo 'a innaka la anta Yoosufu qaala ana Yoosufu wa haazaaa akhee qad mannal laahu 'alainaa innahoo mai yattaqi wa yasbir fa innal laaha laa yudee'u ajral muhsineen )
They said, "Are you really Yusuf [192]?" He replied, "I am Yusuf, and this is my brother [193]. Indeed, Allah has favored us. Whoever fears Allah and is patient, Allah does not waste the reward of the righteous [195]."
Despite visiting Hazrat Yusuf (علیہ السلام) twice before, his brothers failed to recognize him.
It was only after they displayed helplessness and humility that he revealed his true identity.
This indicates that spiritual recognition often comes only after sincere repentance and submission.
The example is likened to those who come into the spiritual court of the Holy Prophet ﷺ—recognition and acceptance are granted to those who come with faith and humility [Surah Al-An'am: 6:54].
The "brother" refers to either his full brother, Hazrat Benyamin, or the one who was also chosen for Allah’s special favour.
Though all were his half-brothers, this particular bond and spiritual elevation is mentioned to distinguish the closeness and shared struggle between Yusuf and Benyamin.
“We” refers specifically to Yusuf and Benyamin.
The divine favour here refers to their honourable reunion after hardship and enduring separation with patience.
Though the other brothers were also believers, this specific benevolence and reunion was a special mark upon these two.
Hazrat Yusuf (علیہ السلام) cited their own life story as evidence: despite their trials, Allah rewarded their patience.
It confirms the divine law that the reward of those who are righteous and patient is never wasted by Allah.
