Transliteration:( Qaala tazra'oona sab'a sineena da aban famaa hasattum fazaroohu fee sumbu liheee illaa qaleelam mimmaa ta'kuloon )
"He said, 'You will cultivate for seven continuous years [104]. Then, what you harvest, leave it in its ear [105], except for a little that you may eat [106].'"
Hazrat Yusuf (on whom be peace) predicts seven years of rain and good harvest. During these years, the people should cultivate their lands well and continuously sow seeds. Afterward, there will be seven years of drought, during which no grain will grow. The accumulated harvest from the rainy years will sustain them during the years of famine. This advice reflects a deep understanding of agriculture and the cyclical nature of nature, highlighting the wisdom of Hazrat Yusuf (on whom be peace).
From this, we learn that Prophets are aware of both worldly and religious matters, which are hidden from ordinary people. Hazrat Yusuf (on whom be peace) provided an agricultural solution that would only be known to an expert agriculturist, demonstrating that Prophets have comprehensive knowledge that includes matters beyond just religion. Similarly, when the Holy Prophet ﷺ initially stopped the companions from engrafting date trees and later permitted it, it was not due to lack of knowledge, but because of the hastiness of the people. The Prophets are well-versed in running state affairs and worldly matters, as seen when Hazrat Yusuf (on whom be peace) managed the state treasury and distributed grain during famine. This knowledge is not just religious, but comprehensive, distinguishing Prophets from regular scholars.
Hazrat Yusuf (on whom be peace) advises to leave the harvested grain in its ear, as grain in the chaff lasts longer. If removed from the chaff, it will become inedible within a year. This also carries a subtle hint for the people to eat less, as difficult times are ahead. This advice demonstrates foresight and teaches the importance of saving for future hardships, preparing for adversity during prosperous times.
