The Honored Recorders – Commentary (Tafseer) of the Verse 82:11

"The Honored Recorders."

The Role and Honor of Recording Angels

From this verse, two key points emerge:

  1. Angels Hold High Status in Allah’s Court – The angels assigned to record human deeds are highly honored and respected in the presence of Allah Almighty.

  2. They Record Every Deed with Accuracy – These angels are aware of all actions, whether apparent or hidden, and they document them precisely. The word Kariem (generous) is derived from Karam (kindness) or Karamat (nobility), signifying their elevated status.

    • They are so kind to believers that they do not appear before them, ensuring people are not discouraged from their private actions.
    • They do not disclose sins to others but rather record them discreetly.
    • For every good deed, they write ten rewards, while for every sin, they record only one punishment.
    • They document good thoughts but do not record sinful thoughts unless acted upon.
