📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Ma’idah – Verse 108

"That is more likely that they may give testimony in accordance with their rights, or they may fear that their oaths may be rejected after they have taken them [293]. And fear Allah and listen [294]. And Allah does not guide the disobedient people."

✅ Swearing Oaths Prevents False Testimony [293]

This part of the verse emphasizes that requiring serious oaths discourages lying. People are more likely to speak the truth when they fear the rejection of their oath, public embarrassment, or divine punishment. This process helps preserve justice and reduces the chance of fraud in matters of inheritance and wealth.

✅ Only the Righteous Are Guided to Good [294]

Here, “fear Allah and listen” warns that disobedient people—especially disbelievers—will not be guided to the answers of the grave, the Day of Judgment, or the path to Paradise. However, believers, through Allah’s mercy, will be enabled to answer correctly and find eternal reward. Alternatively, it also means true good deeds stem from sound belief. Though non-believers may convert, persistent rejection keeps them from being guided toward good actions or salvation.
