15. O People of the Book! There has come to you Our Messenger who makes clear to you much of that which you had hidden (68), in the Book and he pardons you much. Indeed, there has come to you from Allah light and a Luminous (69), Book (the Quran).

Surah Al-Maidah Ayat 15 Tafsir (Commentry)

68. From this we understand that the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم was fully aware of the laws of all heavenly books. He also knew which laws were genuine and which were counterfeit. Only he can reveal the secrets of anyone who is himself fully aware of them. However there was no instruction for the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم  to rectify these books because they had become abrogated. In fact, the Holy Prophet had rectified verses about laws concerning stoning to death (Rajam), etc.

69 Hazrat Mullah Ali Qari states in his "Sharah Shifa" that both "Light" and "Luminous Book" refers to the Holy Prophet rophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم is indeed both The Light (Noor) and the Luminous Book. The Holy Prophet is the revealing phenomenon of Allah's Personality. His Qualities, His Laws, and Information.Hence, these co-ordinating words can be explanatory as well. The Holy Prophet is the Light of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم in a manner that he was the first to receive all bounties and blessings personally from Allah while through him the bounties are received by the rest of the world. It is further understood that no one has the power to extinguish the Light of Hazrat Muhammad because he is Allah's Light like the moon or sun; no one has the power to measure it, like the water of the ocean or the air. Also, it is impossible to understand the Holy QURAN  without the Holy Prophet because, without the Light, the Book cannot be read. Before you touch the copies of the Holy QURAN it is important to wash the entire body with water ie to take a Ghusal, while to touch the mystical secrets of the QURAN it is important to cleanse your heart with the waters of Madinah.

15. O People of the Scripture! Now has come to you Our Messenger explaining to you much of that which you used to hide from the Scripture and passing over much. Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a light and a plain Book. 16. Wherewith Allah guides all those who seek His Pleasure to ways of peace, and He brings them out of darkness by His permission unto light and guides them to a straight path.

Explaining the Truth Through the Messenger and the Qur’an

Allah states that He sent His Messenger Muhammad with the guidance and the religion of truth to all the people of the earth, the Arabs and non-Arabs, lettered and unlettered. Allah also states that He sent Muhammad with clear evidences and the distinction between truth and falsehood. Allah said,

(O People of the Scripture! Now has come to you Our Messenger explaining to you much of that which you used to hide from the Scripture and passing over much.) So the Prophet explained where they altered, distorted, changed and lied about Allah. He also ignored much of what they changed, since it would not bring about any benefit if it was explained. In his Mustadrak, Al-Hakim recorded that Ibn `Abbas said, “He who disbelieves in stoning (the adulterer to death) will have inadvertently disbelieved in the Qur’an, for Allah said,

(O People of the Scripture! Now has come to you Our Messenger explaining to you much of that which you used to hide from the Scripture) and stoning was among the things that they used to hide.” Al-Hakim said, “Its chain is Sahih, and they did not record it.” Allah next mentions the Glorious Qur’an that He sent down to His honorable Prophet ,

(Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a light and a plain Book. Wherewith Allah guides all those who seek His pleasure to ways of peace.) meaning, ways of safety and righteousness,

(and He brings them out of darkness by His permission unto light and guides them to a straight path.) He thus saves them from destruction and explains to them the best, most clear path. Therefore, He protects them from what they fear, and brings about the best of what they long for, all the while ridding them of misguidance and directing them to the best, most righteous state of being.

(5:15) People of the Book! Now Our Messenger has come to you: he makes clear to you a good many things of the Book which you were wont to conceal, and also passes over many things.[37] There has now come to you a light from Allah, and a clear Book.

37. God discloses some of the dishonest and treacherous dealings of theirs where He deems it necessary in order to strengthen the cause of the true religion, and ignores the disclosure of those which are not truly indispensable.
