8.O you who believe! Be steadfast in the cause of Allah, bearing witness [46] with justice; and let not the hatred of people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to piety [47], and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is acquainted with what you do. (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(8) O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allāh, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allāh; indeed, Allāh is [fully] Aware of what you do. (Saheen International Translation)

📖 Commentary (Tafsir) of Verse 8 – Surah Al-Ma’idah

  1. O you who believe! Be steadfast in the cause of Allah, bearing witness [46] with justice; and let not the hatred of people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to piety [47], and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is acquainted with what you do.

✅ The Meaning of Bearing Witness with Justice [46]

"Stand up firmly" expresses a pattern of non-restriction and limit from which one learns that man should execute justice for oneself, one's relations, and one's enemies. To admit and reflect upon one's sins and fulfil rights of one's relatives, obedience and loyalty to the Holy worship of Allah Almighty are all examples of and the true execution of justice.

✅ Justice as a Path to Piety [47]

From this we learn that in the execution of justice, relatives, non-relatives, Muslims, and Non-Muslims all would be regarded as equal. The commentary and explanation of this verse are reflected in those solved cases of the Holy Prophet ﷺ in which his decision went in favour of non-believers and against the believers.
