Transliteration:( Qaalal laahu haaza yawmu yanfa'us saadiqeena sidquhum; lahum janaatunn tajree min tahtihal anhaaru khaalideena feehaaa abadaa; radiyal laahu 'anhum wa radoo 'anh; zaalikal fawzul 'azeem )
"Allah said: 'This is the day when the truth will [325] benefit the truthful. For them are gardens [326], beneath which rivers flow. They shall abide therein forever. Allah is pleased [327] with them and they are pleased with Allah. This is the greatest success [328].'"
On the Day of Judgment, only those who remained firm on true belief and performed righteous deeds will benefit. Those who followed falsehood or disbelief will face complete loss, regardless of their lineage. Being the offspring of the pious will not save them. The rule is universal: "As you sow, so shall you reap."
The words “For them” affirm that Paradise becomes the personal possession of the righteous. Each believer will receive multiple gardens, not just one. These gardens will have rivers of milk, honey, and pure water, flowing beneath, signifying the abundance, luxury, and permanence of divine reward.
Allah will be pleased with the few deeds of His sincere servants, while they will be content with His decree and sustenance. They remain grateful even during hardships. This verse justifies saying “May Allah be pleased with him” for every sincere and pious person, not just the noble companions, as it reflects a universal spiritual reality.
The ultimate success is not material wealth or kingship, but earning the pleasure of Allah. Real greatness lies in becoming a devoted and accepted servant, not in worldly titles. The greatest triumph is being pleased with Allah and Him being pleased with you.
119. Allah will say: “This is a Day on which the truthful will profit from their truth: Theirs are Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise) — they shall abide therein forever. Allah is pleased with them and they with Him. That is the great success. 120. To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is therein, and He is able to do all things.
Allah answers His servant and Messenger `Isa, son of Maryam, after he disowns the disbelieving Christians who lied about Allah and His Messenger, and when `Isa refers their end to the will of his Lord,
(This is a Day on which the truthful will profit from their truth.) Ad-Dahhak said that Ibn `Abbas commented, “This is the Day when Tawhid will benefit those who believed in it.”
(Theirs are Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise) — they shall abide therein forever.) and they will never be removed from it,
(Allah is pleased with them and they with Him.)
(But the greatest bliss is the good pleasure of Allah.) ﴿9:72﴾ We will mention the Hadiths about this Ayah ﴿9:72﴾ later on. Allah’s statement,
(That is the great success.) means, this is the great success, other than which there is no greater success. Allah said in another Ayat,
(For the like of this let the workers work.) ﴿37:61﴾, and,
(And for this let (all) those strive who want to strive.) ﴿83:26﴾ Allah’s statement,
(To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is therein, and He is able to do all things.) means, He created everything, owns everything, controls the affairs of everything and is able to do all things. Therefore, everything and everyone are in His domain and under His power and will. There is none like Him, nor is there rival, ancestor, son, or wife for Him, nor a lord or god besides Him. Ibn Wahb said that he heard Huyay bin `Abdullah saying that Abu `Abdur-Rahman Al-Habli said that `Abdullah bin `Amr said, “The last revealed Surah was Surat Al-Ma’idah.”
(5:119) Thereupon Allah will say: ‘This day truthfulness shall profit the truthful. For them are Gardens beneath which rivers flow. There they will abide for ever. Allah is well- pleased with them, and they well-pleased with Allah. That indeed is the mighty triumph.’
