Transliteration:( Qaaloo nureedu an naakula minhaa wa tatama 'inna quloo bunaa wa na'lama an qad sadaqtana wa nakoona 'alaihaa minash shaahideen )
"They said: 'We wish to eat from it so that our hearts [310] may be at rest, and so that we may know that you have indeed spoken the truth to us, and we may be among its witnesses [311].'"
The disciples sought spiritual reassurance, asking for the table so their hearts could be at rest. This reflects a transition from convincing knowledge (ilm al-yaqeen) to certainty through experience (ayn al-yaqeen)—similar to Ibrahim (AS) asking, “Show me how You give life to the dead” (Surah 2:260). It also reminds that Prophetic faith is of the highest level, distinct from the faith of ordinary people.
The disciples expressed a desire to become first-hand witnesses to the truth of Isa’s (AS) Prophethood, so that future generations may rely on their eye-witnessed testimony. Isa (AS) instructed them to fast for thirty days, and then make dua—leading to the miraculous table from the heavens. The goal wasn’t mere food, but spiritual affirmation and historical testimony.
