Transliteration:( Maa qultu lahum illaa maaa amartanee bihee ani'budul laaha Rabbeee wa Rabbakum; wa kuntu 'alaihim shaheedam maa dumtu feehim falammaa tawaffaitanee kunta Antar Raqeeba 'alaihim; wa Anta 'alaa kulli shai'in Shaheed )

117."I did not say to them anything except that which You had commanded me [319], that worship Allah my Lord and your Lord [320] And I was a witness over them so long as I remained among them. Then when You took me up, then You were the Watcher (321), over them, and everything is present before You (322)" (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(117) I said not to them except what You commanded me - to worship Allāh, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me up, You were the Observer over them, and You are, over all things, Witness. (Saheen International Translation)

📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Ma’idah – Verse 117

"'I did not say to them anything except that which You had commanded me [319], that worship Allah my Lord and your Lord [320]. And I was a witness over them so long as I remained among them. Then when You took me up, then You were the Watcher over them [321], and everything is present before You [322].'"

✅ Prophetic Actions Are Fully Aligned with Divine Command [319]

This verse confirms that every word and act of a Prophet is based on direct command from Allah. Prophets are chosen because their propagation is divinely inspired, unlike ordinary scholars or callers to Islam, whose efforts, though valuable, are based on obedience to the Prophet, not direct revelation. This is what distinguishes Prophets from all others.

✅ Refutation of Christian Belief in Divinity of Isa (AS) [320]

Here, Isa (AS) clearly refutes the Christian doctrine of his divinity by declaring, “Allah is my Lord and your Lord.” This emphasizes that both he and his followers are servants of Allah, firmly discrediting any claim of his godhood, and affirming Tawheed (Oneness of Allah).

✅ Witnessing Ends with Earthly Mission, Not Knowledge [321]

Isa (AS) states that he was a witness and guardian over his people as long as he was present. After he was raised, responsibility shifted to Allah. This does not mean Isa (AS) lost knowledge, but that his duty of propagation ended, and divine supervision continued. It highlights the transition of accountability back to Allah.

✅ Allah's Witnessing Is Absolute and Boundless [322]

The word “Shaheed” comes from “Shahaadah” meaning to witness or to be present. Allah’s knowledge encompasses all things, unrestricted by space or location. Everything—past, present, and future—is immediately present before Him, as He is All-Seeing, All-Knowing, and ever-watchful.
